Intermittent Keyboard

My keyboard stops working after my PC sits idle after a while. I will work
fine after restart ..... then stop working after signing off my screen.
I am using XP Pro and have the SP2 update. I have had the SP2 update for
sometime now without issues.
My PC is a Compaq Presario/P3/512 RAM.
Not sure if this is software related or hardware.
I have checked connections.
Could this problem be a simple as getting a new keyboard?
Why does it work ok as long as I am using it?
I am sure I am missing something simple.

Try going to Control Panel > accessibility options and unchecking everything
