I have started getting brief black screens and then return to previous
desktop and wallpaper. This does not impede functions but it is very
annoying.

Any ideas?

Thanks

First check the refresh rate and be sure it is not out of the range
specified in your monitor documentation for the resolution at which you are
running. If that's fine, does your graphics card have dedicated memory or
does it share memory with main system memory.

If yor card has its own dedicated memory, how much? Also, be sure all
connections between monitor and computer are tight.

Refresh rate is 60 and monitor can do both 59 & 60. It is a Dell 2405FPW.
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1900XT with 512MB. Connections are tight
with screwed in fasteners.

Do you have the latest drivers from ATI for this card? If yes, at the
driver download site, there is a Windows Vista driver feedback link. You
might want to correspond with ATI about this issue:

Thanks. I did not know about the 7.4 version but I am installing it now.
Perhaps that will be the solution.
