Intel has released an updated Chipset driver package (8.0.1.1002).
What is the criteria for using this update. Is this firmware or
software and do you have to download the Intel accelerator? Thanks.

Welcome to "microsoft.public.windowsxp.general".
Not "Intel.public.chipsets.general". *grin*

Here is the reame.txt Intel includes (with the discussed software release):

Here are the Release Notes Intel includes (with the discussed software
release):

You should review those and the various other links on Intel's site for
answers to your Intel questions. =)

Most times it's needed after a fresh install of the OS. Once the
system drivers are in place from an earlier package, the installer
will simply report that all devices are up to date. Basically, it adds
the latest .inf modules to your system.
It harms nothing to simply download and run the package. This
latest one adds support for some of the newer Intel chipsets on
the market now, specifically the P965.
Intel Accelerator is a different package completely related to
disk controller software.

He just asked a simple question ****face. You are the lowest most pathetic

douchebag that appoints himself a moderater. Answer the question of shut

Hey newbie, you attacked the previous poster, but you are the one who
doesn't look to well! First, you need to learn better language. Second, he
had a point! This is a Windows XP newsgroup and *not* an Intel group! The
opening poster should post his question in a more appropriate group!
