Intelligent numbering in XP

ISTR that XP should have "intelligent numbering".

So that in Wndows Explorer these files:
5.txt
6.txt
9.txt

would be listed before these two files:
12.txt
28.txt

and all those above would be before this one:
106.txt

However this does not work for me. Do I need to make a setting?

There is no setting. But you could try this:

Number the files with leading zeros ...

005.txt
006.txt
009.txt
012.txt
028.txt
106.txt

there IS a setting, it's accessable w/ TweakUI, under the Explorer
section, named "intuative filename sorting". Note that it only affects
Explorer's lists, nothing else - other programs will still move thru files
using the old sort scheme (ie, pic viewers such as IrfanView).

So, renaming w/ the leading zeros can still be of value for making these
programs display things in the "right" order.

I agree. But it is the very renaming operation which can be hard to do
in a utility which doesn't sort the numbers "intuitively".

Use a program that does batch renaming. Irfanview is one. It's also a
good, free, graphics utility program.
