Intel Pro/100 VE NIC at XP PRO has physical address FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF ???!!!

the INTEL PRO/100 VE NIC inside my XP PRO Samsung P20C notebook does
not work anymore.

I can ping to my own IP and also to 127.0.0.1 but not outside !
ipconfig /all says it's physical address is FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF, this
sounds strange !

WiFI connection works perfectls, only the LAN connection via cable
does not.

how can I check best if it is just a matter of settings or a defective
nic ?

Try un-installing the NIC in Device Manager and then re-installing it.
