Something strange has started to happen to my (other computer) Asus P4PE
motherboard equipped WinXP computer.

During the boot process, just after the post, Intel Boot Agent launches. It
has never done this before. Although I may have a CDRom in the drive and it
is being picked up there......I will repost if any difference.

You can select (I think) F2 and a menu pops up with options on what the
computer should boot, to look for an operating system. If allowed to go
through it's motions, it fails and asks for a system disk, or
Ctrl/Alt/Delete to reboot.

Intel Boot Agent Ce 1.2.10 PXE 2.1 build 083 WFM 2 RPL V1.2

Sometimes XP starts, then locks up on the desktop. Start does not work, and
you get 1 click of the desktop. Then the processor fan starts to run at full
speed. Once it started up and said some NTSF dll file was missing or corrupt
and asked me to put in the WinXP CD to do a "R" install.

Norton AV virus definitions are up to date, and I regularly scan for spyware
with Spybot S&D, but it looks like even the best laid plans may have been
given the end around by a virus. Do you think?

Is my hard drive toast?
