This is pretty lengthy, so bear with me. I'm trying a
clean install of XP. I went into BIOS but don't think I
can boot from CD. Options were set at follows: Multibay-
first, Hard Drive-second, Ethernet-third. I left it as
is. I ran setup from the CD, selected the drive to
partition and install XP on, chose to convert drive to
NTFS, chose option to have all existing folders/files,
etc to be deleted. Went through entire 40min process.
Was not asked for product key, but was asked to register
online. IS THIS NORMAL? Anyway, after I selected to
register software at a later date, I began to install
Wireless G card to reconnect to home network and
internet. I just happen to look in the "My Computer"
folder and VIOLA! all my old existing files and folders
were still under Local C drive. ANY IDEA WHAT HAPPENED
AND WHY? I guess I will have to redo the entire process,
but I dread this happening again. Any suggestions? By
the way, my laptop doesn't have a floppy so after reading
previous suggestions, I can't create boot disks -- unless
I use my removable pin drive. ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE
GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE :) 1:59EST

Did you run setup from the Windows desktop, or from the boot up? I am
confused by your statement you can't boot from the CD.
You cannot do a clean install running setup from Windows.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address bar.
How to clean install XP.

My laptop isn't allowing me to boot from ROM drive. In
BIOS, these are my boot options: QuickBoot:Enable,
Multiboot:Disable, and this is my Boot Order: Notebook
Multibay:First, Notebook hard drive:Second, Notebook
Ethernet Boot:Third. Therefore, I insert the CD, it
runs, and gives me 4 options, one of which is to install
XP. I then continue and chose clean install, as opposed
to upgrade. THANKS IN ADVANCE :)12:24EST
