I recently had a hard drive crash, I have a good back up so data is not a
problem. The issue is I bought a new hard drive exactly like my old one,
when I tried to load XP i got a message that some files were missing. Does
anyone have any suggestions to help me load the software?

thanks

Check the cabling. Use the new cables that came with the new drive.
Check your CD drive and the CD you are using for scratches.

{cough} {cough}
1) what kind of version of Windows is it?
2) How were you trying to install it - repair, clean, update?
3) "Some files were missing"?? What files???????????

Now, if you'd like to give us some help, maybe we can give you some
help.

From what source is Windows XP being reloaded...an image
file of the original HD? A true backup from tape? Or just
a copy of the Windows folder? Or the Windows XP installation
cdrom?

Thanks to all for your replys.
I am using the cd that came with the orginal computer. The files not found
message when to fast to see the exact files that are missing.
Any suggestions?

Problems installing an operating system such as yours are usually caused
by:

1. Bad cd - could be a bad burn or scratched/dirty cd.
2. Bad cd drive
3. Bad RAM
4. Bad hard drive.

Here are hardware troubleshooting steps:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very
rare occasions the installation CD is the problem.
