Hello all,
I am attempting to install XP Pro on an older machine(
700MHZ+128MG mem)that was running Win98 for a long time
with no problems.
The installation goes fine until the very end when it
appears to be complete. Tells me its going to change
video settings, which displays okay but then the screen
just goes blank. The hard disk looks like its okay....not
hanging. When I reboot the XP professional screen pops up
and starts to go into the Welcome to XP part of the
installation.....then the screen goes blank again and the
hard disk looks like its trying to load things but then
disk activity stops and NOTHING!
Never had this happen before and I've loaded a few older
machines with XP PRO.
Can anyone offer any insight?
Thanks!
Bruce

You might need XP drivers for your video card. You
should probably check your other hardware in the device
manager to see if their are yellow exclamation points by
them. If so you will need XP drivers for those devices.
You might be able to boot into safe mode and download and
install the drivers from their.

Thanks to you both....If I can't boot to safe mode for
the same reason, is there any way to install those
drivers from the dos prompt? I can download the drivers
from another machine.
Thanks again!

There is also a VGA Compatible Mode if for some reason Safe Mode won't work,
but it should. They are Windows drivers, so they can't be installed in DOS
mode.

Thanks Cari!
I realize they are windows drivers I just thought I could
copy the driver files to a particular directory, where
they would be picked up when booted up again.
But thanks for the suggestions ....I'll try those before
posting again.
Chow!
