I just installed XP pro over 98. For some reason I don't have any of
the desktop files I had before.

Why were my settings not carried over?

When I checked "all programs" none of the old programs are on the
list.

So far I have looked in the Ad Aware folder and made a shortcut to the
desktop and it works.

It looks like all the old files are there when I get a directory of
c:.

Am I going to have to manually add shortcuts for everything again?

Sounds like you installed OVER the 98 installation, instead of UPGRADING
the 98 installation. You will likely need to reinstall any programs you
want to use in XP.

On your Windows XP open Control Panel - System - General and look at
the Product ID code that is reported as the last item in the "Licensed
to:" section of the Window.

If the second segment of the Product ID reads OEM then your installed
Windows XP is an OEM version and these will not do an upgrade from a
previous version of Windows.

Hope this explains the situation.

Good luck
