I just installed XP professional. i used to have windows
2000 NT. i want 2000 totally wiped out and only have xp
on my system. i noticed when i turn on the computer, it
starts at a screen that asks me to choose the operating
system 1. xp or 2. windows 2000. How do i fix my
computer so that i only have xp on it or how do i bypass
the screen that asks me to select the operating system so
that when the computer reboots then it goes straight to
windows XP?

Please advice

Boot using the Windows 98 boot diskette and at the command
prompt, type fdisk /mbr

If still no joy. then launch MSConfig , choose boot.ini
tab and make the necessary changes.

Greetings --

Evidently, you created a dual-boot configuration, rather than
replacing Win2K. Did you select "Upgrade" or "New Installation?" If
the later, and you did not subsequently choose to format the
partition, you'd get exactly the result you're seeing.

To fix it, boot into Win2K, insert the WinXP installation CD, and
select "Upgrade (Recommended)." Once WinXP is installed and you've
verified all of your settings and applications are fine, you can
remove the dual-boot option by deleting the extraneous WinXP folder
(probably C:\Windows) and editing C:\Boot.ini.

And what, exactly, would that do, besides rendering the PC
unbootable (assuming a FAT32 partition)?
