No one can give you a definitive answer on the legality of what you want
to do. Any one that tells you otherwise is either a liar or a moron
[possibly both]. You have to come to your own decision.

I believe the EULA is a legally binding contract. This means if you breach
the agreement, you simply lose customer support and cannot demand it from
MS. You haven't actually broken a law of the land.

And there is no US law that prohibits breaking a contract, in and of
itself. MS's EULA terms are legally questionable to begin with,
especially as it concerns private individuals using the software for
non-commercial use, and that's why MS has never pursued one individual
for breaking the EULA, because they are afraid they'd lose in court, and
then they couldn't FUD people into believing their EULA & post-EULA
policies.

I don't believe such a law exists in the UK either. After all, the only
"wrong" being done, is breaking the agreement.

Greetings --

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) the sort of multiple installations you're asking about.

MS started their one computer EULA nonsense with Windows 3.1.

Why do the MicroMorons have to lie?

Windows is, as always sold on the basis of one copy to each machine.
Now there is the activation system to ensure you don't do it. You have
to buy another copy. There is a discount scheme (see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/addlic.asp
) but a copy at a discount store will probably be cheaper

*HAS* *NOT* been "always sold on the basis of one copy to each machine!"

I suggest that you modify your language to better conform with the
actual facts, Alex.
