I have a registered edition of XP that came with my
computer when I bought it and I was wanting to instal it
on my old computer. Can I do this and have it registered
on both computers.

thank you

You've got 2 problems here

i) Under the terms of the operating system licence, OEM software, which is
software that is bundled in with hardware, is permanently 'married' to the
hardware it came with. It can't be moved or transferred to another bit of
hardware.

ii) You can legally only install and use XP on one system at any one time.
Even if you had a full version of XP (which does allow for transfers to
different hardware), you cannot legally run it on two systems at the same
time. And the activation procedure will attempt to detect and prevent you
from doing this.

Suggest you read the license (probably on a piece of paper that came
with your computer or type comnand "winver" and click on "End User
License Agreement") see what you conclude. Your are likely to conclude
that it can be installed on on only one computer at a time.

No.

In the first place no version of windows (except those sold to companies
under a volume license) may be installed on more than one machine at any
time. And second the one that 'came with a computer' is an OEM one
where the license is solely to that machine - at a lower price - and it
may not be moved to another at all
