Bought a PC - barebone system.
No operating system installed. Installing Windows
XP "Professional". After it prepares for installation all
of the sudden it says that it has not found a previous
version installed and is asking for a Win 200 or98 or ME
ar other WINDOWS disk. The Windows version I have is an
academic version and seems to be a full version because
nowhere on the package it does not say that it is a
Upgrade.

Also How do I go about registering it with Microsoft for
NEW pc because I was using it on my old PC that I am
planing to take a HD out and give it away.

Thank you

The error message you are getting is one from an Upgrade version of Windows
XP.
Re-check the packaging and if you wish post the "part number" here so we can
check it for you.
It look like X12-34578

Also ensure that you are not providing Windows XP with your old PC when you
pass it on.
Technically you should not be using your current copy of Windows XP until it
has been removed from the previous machine.
As regards Activating (not registering) this can be done over the phone when
the time comes.

The "Part" number is X08-88594

I have to operate both PCs for a few days so I can make
sure that I transfer all neded documents and logs to the
new PC. I have no intention to leave my Windows in the
machine that I am giving away because get myself into
trouble just because I am being nice is not a "good idea"
Thanks
