Installing XP in New Folder...

Hey, I am not new to computers but there are times when I must admit I need
some help. I have Windows XP Service Pack 2, but alot of things have
happened over the past year and with the bugs and everything, I would like to
have a fresh start. I don't mind that all my documents, settings and
everything are erased. I would like however to keep my remaining Windows
folder in case I realize I leave something behind.

I want to install Windows XP on a second folder, I have the disc, license
key, and everything, I even know how to install it, here is my problem.
Since updates were made automatically on to my computer often when I inserted
my XP cd it said the CD version was older than the version currently on the
computer, because of the updates I assume. So, I did what it said, rebooted
and waited for it to load, but it just went into normal windows as it usually
does on start-up. I even went in and changed the order of booting where
CD-ROM is seen in first. Is there something I need to do? I know what I
need to do after the disc loads, I just need to find out how to get the disc
to load when I reboot.

HELP ME PLEASE! lol

It would not be wise to install Windows XP in
another folder on the same partition. You should
consider performing a "Clean Install".

once boot order changed to boot from cd, bios should prompt you to hit any
key to boot from cd.
you are putting cd in first cd drive?

when you changed setting, did you save changes to bios?

on mine when set to boot cd, with bootable cd in drive, i'll get the above
message.
on mine when set to boot cd, with NO cd in drive, i'll get a failure message
and then it boots to HDD.

I understand what both of you are saying. And yes Dixonian69, you helped a
great deal. But as for the other response, I think I will just save certain
things I want, like documents, etc to a disc and put them on the new windows.
Does this mean I go to control panel and uninstall windows XP first, then
put the cd in my CD-ROM drive?

No, no uninstalling is required. It's not even possible the way you suggest;
you can't uninstall Windows from within Windows, since that would be like
sawing off the tree branch you're sitting on.

To do a clean installation, just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the
BIOS boot order if necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for
a clean installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when
prompted, then create a new one).
You can find detailed instructions here:

Thank you. I wasn't aware of that. I think I know what I'm doing if not
then I will go to the sites you suggested. Thank you once again for all of
your guy's help.
