I am currently runnig XP Pro (SP1) and want to revert
back to XP Home. I have both cds. I have tried to follow
the directions in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
283236, where by I perform a NEW INSTALLATION on a
separate partition, but when trying to install from the
cd it doesn't even offer me the option of "new
installation." Rather, it just defaults to trying to
update XP Pro to XP Home, which it can't do.

Help!

Do you have an existing unused partition on your hard drive where XP
Home can be installed? If so then when you boot with the XP Home CD
it should give you a choice as to which partition it is to be
installed into.

Shane,

I have to ask why you are wanting to go BACK down to XP Home. XP Home and
Pro are virtually the same OS, except that XP Pro has a few more features
enabled like being able to be a member of a domain, and get security
policies.

Also, when you're booted in Windows XP Pro, have you looked in Disk
Management? If the disk has been converted to dynamic, you will not be able
to perform another installation at all.
