Installing Windows XP SP2

I currently have Windows XP SP1, when trying to download SP2, I receive an
"access denied" message and the uninstall wizard reverses what was in the
process up to that point. Can someone please help?

Download or install error - different operations.

Try downloading the SP2 file to your desktop (again, the first attempt
may be corrupted).

Then double-click the d/loaded file icon on the desktop to install it
- as a separate operation.
