Installing Windows XP SP2 kills my computer!

Twice now, I have tried to download and install SP2. Each
time the result is a computer which reboots but doesn't
start Windows, then reboots again and so on continuously.
Only a system recovery (F10 during start up) gets around
it and that has meant I've needed to reinstall various
programs as it's been reset to the day I bought it new.
Any advise greatfully accepted. Thanks.
 
My problem is SP2 is that when I go to windows explorer(not IE) and look at
what's in my folders and c: drive or any drive it sometimes freezes even when
I go to c: drive properties it freezes.......
 
My advice is buy a Mac.
And I am going to tell everyone this from now on.
Windows is becoming an exepensive sick joke..
