I have tried to install windows xp pro on a bootable usb2
hdd mounted in a usb hdd caddy. I runs the firts part but
when it has finished to copy all the installation files
and reboots to complete the installation it blue screens
and quicly reboots. I am using a ecs notebook g732 with
bootable usb support in bios but suspect that xp has no
support for usb hdd controller??

You *must* install Windows (all versions) to a fixed physical disk, and
you must install Windows (all versions) to a bootable primary partition that
starts within the first 8 GB of that first physical disk. In other words,
your main hard disk must house Windows for your computer to be bootable and
for Setup to run properly.
