I wish to move XP to a faster (different) machine. I want
to do a fresh install. How do I go about activating it
(or re-activating it)? What issues will there be? Aticle
305356 addresses the fact that you may be prompted to re-
activate if you have significant hardware changes. If I
make the changes, will I be prevented from re-activating?

Thanks,
David

If you purchased the retail version you can all you need
to do is call up the number and explain the situation.
If it came with your computer, then you cannot do it
legally

--But heck what do I know I'm just 15--

activate by phone

Thanks for the info. It's nice to know what you are
getting into before you do it.

Thanks again,
David

If it's a retail copy of Windows, there's no problem. If
it's been over 120 days, activation over the internet
should take place as easily as it did the first time. If
fewer than 120 days, you'll be given an 800 number to
call. Just explain what you've done and they'll take care
of it over the phone, giving you a number to enter at your
keyboard. It's quick and easy--usually under five minutes.
On the other hand, if you have an OEM version, doing what
you propose is against the terms of the EULA, and you can
not do this legally.
