Hi,

I received a computer from a friend with a virus in an
unbootable state. This was an HP computer and things
started going down hill fast.

My decision was to reinstall a copy of XP-Pro. (My
personal copy). To see if everything worked OK. The good
news is it does, it works better then the HP Version of
windows and no data was lost.

Can I make this a legal copy? What does it cost? Where do
I go from here?

I have not activated this copy because they have 30 days
and I do not want them using my software permanently.

Thanks,

John

Hi,
I believe the newer HPs have the Product ID on the side
of the computer. If you had the exact version that was
installed, this Product ID is valid and should work.

Activate the product via the phone with MS. One other way
is to search internet for activation numbers however, it
is illegal.
