hi all,
i just installed the full version of WindowsXP home via regular procedure,
that is the one dictated by bootable CD. But it did not format the whole hard
disc, even though I selected that option.

would like to know how to install it via BIOS, i've heard that way it
completely formats the disc and you computer is like new.

Thanks

MS format utilities cannot format if there is no access to MBR so it's
either a virus or Boot sector protection is On. Turn it Off in the BIOS.

Aseem, You can rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management
If you
have Unallocated Space you can Partition and Format from there. You can
also use a Win98 bootdisk to format and partition a hard drive. The Bios
does not do that for you.
You will have to go into the Bios and change the boot order to floppy
as first boot device. You can get a boot disk
here. www.bootdisk.com How much space on your drive is left that
hasnt been formatted?

Hi Rich,
my expectation from the full installation was that my computer shall be like
new, but to my dismay the Program file folder had folders of all the unwanted
programs.
Similarly, under Documents and Settings old setting etc very preserved and
new were created after installation.
Although they didn't cause any harm, but they take away a lot of space and
don't solve the purpose of fresh installation.
How do I make my computer like new with full version of WindowsXP Home.
thanks
Aseem

There is no install by "BIOS", you have to delete the partition then allow
XP setup to create and format a new one. Follow the steps in the link below.

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address bar.

Aseem, from what you said in your second post it looks like either
WinXP Home did an Upgrade of your Previous OS
or did a Parallel Installation. Follow Michael's suggestion on how to
perform a Clean Install of WinXP. If you would

Clean Install check here

When you format a hard disk without any parameters it defaults to format
unpartitioned, unallocated space left on the hard drive, which won't help you
to remove data from any existing partition/s. You must first delete the
existing partition/s and then it should n't be a problem to erase and format
from the install CD, so long as it is bootable and will perform a complete
fresh install (i.e. not an upgrade disk) it's not really as complicated as
those other post make it seem bacause Windows is designed to perform the
tasks you require at installation. Good Luck
