When trying to install SP2 on windows XP pro, I get an error stating that I
don't have the proper permissions to update windows xp. I am a member of the
administrators group on the local machine. I have also checked NTFS
permissions and applied full control to all child objects. Still no luck.

I've tried to reset the REGKEYS area wth secedit, that didn't help. I still
haven't done a full reset to all areas. This machine is a domain member, so
I'm hesitant to reset everything. In the setupapi.log, I didn't see any
attempted updates that had failed. The last listing in the file was about my
usb mouse, which I found interesting because I have the exact same problem
with another computer that has the same mouse. But like I said, I reset the
registry permissions so if a reg key was the problem that should have fixed
it. I tried removing the mouse, that didn't work either.

I am having the same problem. Same error message. Have tried taking one
machine off the domain, logging in as local administrator and still the same
result.
