Installing programs in dual boot

I want to setup a dual boot with XP on both boots. One for more typical
use.. email, internet, etc.. and a second for music editting only without
any un-needed programs (to maximize resources.)

My question. I want to have Word installed in both XPs. Can I
-boot to the first XP
-install Word with a path of E:\Office
-reboot to 2nd XP
-install Word with the path to the same E:\Office
I'm hoping this would save hard drive space rather than have all the
installed files in 2 places.

Someone told me they thought each copy of Word HAS TO BE installed to the
boot drive of each XP.. can't point the installation to put the files a
different drive. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance

You can probably do what you have in mind but
it ain't nice. You might have some unsuspected
problems in future.

In view of the extremely low price of hard disks,
it's somewhat difficult to see why you would
want to save a few hundred MBytes and potentially
buy into some future problems. IMHO, the best
multi-boot systems are those where each OS
is completely separate, with every other OS being
completely invisible.

Thanks for the reply. The opinion of someone with experience and expertise
is exactly what I was looking for. I'll take your advice and keep things
separate. Appreciate the help
