I am hoping that someone may offer a solution to this
problem,HP/Compaq is not useful (I know, old news). Out of the box this
Compaq xp/sp2 media Ed.2005 PC would not let me change/copy my own files. It
said I was logged in as Administrator, but in reality, I had rights between
Limited and Admin. All files were going to Compaq_Admin. Going the
safemode/doc's-settings-security/owner I did the best I could to get
ownership and suceeded. It was not till later I found that I got a "Creating
of temp.folder...access denied..%path%..C:\ " and so on would appear not
after downloading but when it was time to Install. Even a Norton CD would
load
then fail as an error. Doing a recovery would just bring back the original
"Bad" settings. I also noticed that going to the Security Center, I get just
3
options to click on, not the options with the drop down boxes. Is that
indicative of a "Limited" user? On the installing side,I thought maybe they
were being fed to me,since I took ownership, rather than to the Compaq_Admin.
?? Any Idea's? Thanks, Dan

You're post is hard to understand, but if this is a new system and it did it
right out of the box, why not contact HP/Compaq tech support?

I bought a hp desktopmedia center tv pc. i created a acct. after that
admistrator acct. was not listed at user choice sign in. i had same problem.
i did f-10 restore to factory did not creat an acct with my name added my
wife and son left mine as admin. on user chice sign admin is me so i have no
problems. sounds crazy but it worked for me. i let all have admin rights. tho
all i've seen advised against having multiple admin.

Why are you posting this to me, I'm not the one with the problem.

Thanks Dytrob, I thought about the F-10 non-destruc. recovery, but if it did
not work,I had no idea what would be lost. If the ISP program was erased and
the recovery failed,I'd be sol. But that seems the best option!- Rock, An
unexpected death in the family on Christmas day threw my PC concerns to one
side. Once I got as chance to contact "support" I learned after 2hrs. 10
min.'s on the phone the "Tech" had no clue what to do. I swore off that,
unless I need help looking for the on/off switch. If it is not in their
notebook-they start guessing. I later did ask them exactly what I would lose
(documents are backed up on a flash drive) but I was concerned with the
programs. I never heard back...
Here's a question, A few times I went to the help/support page(almost
useless) and was directed to the "Media Center" button. It appears that if
you don't have the "Remote" (another pricey option?) access is nil. Why sell
it as a "Media Ed. 2005" - 2005 is when it expired I suppose. Thanks for
your help guys-Hopefully the PC will come around. Dan

Your right ROCK-I never should have addressed this issue directly to you,I
will avoid posting for your sake and try to elicit help from friendly
members. Why should I bother you with my personal problems? This forum has no
business asking for aid with problems. My apologies.

F-10 is just a series of tests. it does not harm your new programs. destru.
is a to factory restore.

Dan, look at the threading. I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to
Dytrog who posted his reply to me instead of to you. I was telling him to
reply to you.

Hi Dytrog,
I did the F-10 Non-Destr. recovery and after getting a message that said
-You have a serious configuration problem-contact HP support. Lower left of
message said "Code Purple". Then the PC locked up! When I called Tech
Support, he said the Hard-drive is bad. The Email support (discontinued for
new PC's-list a older model number to get through-little tip) said "no it's
not" The motherboard is tatooed to the bios and it must be returned to the HP
repair center to be "tatooed" to operate. Without going into the mess of
returning boxes and parts shipped overnight to me, I just did a recovery
without the disc's,but F-8 full recovery. That seems to have repaired the
problem-I also removed the Compaq_Administrator from the account and I
believe that will resolve the issues that started the initial break down. All
is well in cyber-world again! Thanks,Dan
