In a nutshell:

My bios on my intel D845PEBT2 recognizes my new SATA
drive. It is connected to the primary SATA header on the
motherboard. In the bios it is set as the #1 drive and
booting from SATA drive is enabled.

However the windows setup cannot 'find' the hard drive.
I thus cannot install windows XP pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you need the sata controller drivers on a floppy, boot
from the XP CD, and when windows setup says "Press F6 to
install third party SCSI or raid drivers" press F6, and
direct setup to the SATA drivers. windows should then
find your SATA HDD.

Thank you,

Duh... You are so correct. Since I was not planning to
do RAID I didn't think I needed those drivers. Now it
works. Thanks again,

Sounds like you need to install the SATA driver during the intial
stage of the Windows installation (F6, insert driver diskette in
floppy drive).
