I have a software that worked well on both my Win 98 machine and my Win XP
machine. It gave me problems when I tried to install it on my new Vista.
How does one install old programs on Vista machines? Someone mentioned
something like "administrator" .... I am the only one who works on this
machine. This old geezer will appreciate any help.

Try installing in XP Compatibility mode. Search Windows Help for "Start the
Program Compatibility Wizard".

Hi,

"Run as Administrator" (right mouse) on Vista works a bit different then on
XP - switches famous UAC on "installing" level.

Many older programs just work with Vista. Some "may" work. Some will not
work at all, no matter
what you do.

If you absolutely need a program in the last group you are well advised to
stay with Windows XP, or upgrade to a similar program that is Vista
compatible.

The program name is Verbix 6.0. It is a verb conjugator from verbix.com.
I have written to them twice but got no answer. I have also downloaded
their newest version 7.3 and it works no better than my 6.0. I don't get
any messages when I install it through the wizard as XP -- it just does not
work. And yet it worked so well and so fast on my old XP machine ???????

What problems?
Any error messages?
What is the name of the program?

There have been many programming changes in Vista. Most of the legacy
software programs will still work, but there are a few that simply will not.

You might want to installing the program with administrator privileges.
Right click the installation file and select the Run As Administrator
option. If this works, then after the installation, right click the shortcut
for the program and select the Compatibility Tab. Select the Compatibility
option for Windows XP and the option to Run As Administrator.

Let us know if this works.

Hi Ronnie.

Short answer: absolutely not! I can't understand because the program worked
flawlessly for years with XP-SP2. I have it installed on my laptop (XP2) and
it works fine. An annoying point is the fact that I have written to the
company twice with compatibility questions and still no answer. Oh well,
there goes another $50.
