Installing Office XP special edition

I'm trying to install office xp special edition, I put in
the product key that accompanies the disk ( I bought it
from a respectable high street name) and it tells me
there is no qualifying product on the computer or in any
drives. Please, I need help and advice as to what to do
next!
 
Unless you own a previous version of Office or a qualifying
Office upgrade product, you'll need a "Full Version", and not an
"Upgrade Version", of Office XP.

Whoops! Not too bright really, are you?!

1) The SE was available as an upgrade only (and it even tells yo so on
the box - with a bright red 'Upgrade' flash)

2) It was discontinued 2½ years ago (it was only available for six months
after XP's launch). How come it's taken you this long to even attempt to
install it?! It's a bit late to try for a refund now (not that you'd get one
because the mistake was yours).

3) The answer's simple really (so you should have no trouble
understanding it) - you either need to avail yourself of a qualifying
product (Office 97 or 2000) or buy Office 2003.

version of Office XP, which requires that there be an earlier,
qualifying version of Office already installed. If you do not already
have a license for a qualifying product, you'll have to return your
Upgrade license and exchange it for a Full version.

Erm, Bruce? No store I've ever had dealings with takes back open software -
and especially not after 2½ years! The Special Edition was a promotional
package only available for about six months after Office XP's release. That
means the OP's had it sitting around forever. Office XP is no longer sold
anyway.
