I can download fonts and view them in the font folder but they don't show in
Page Maker or Word. When I click the Fonts folder (which is not in the
Control panel but in Windows/fonts), I have no option on installing fonts.
The information I find on troubleshooting on the Web does not apply to XP. I
do not have the XP CDs because I have a HP computer with preinstalled XP, in
case it is a corrupted file. What I find is:
a.. The System and Read Only attributes are no longer set for the Fonts
folder. The Fonts folder must have its System and Read Only attributes set
to work correctly.
b.. The Fontext.dll file may be missing or damaged, causing the menus to
contain only the commands for a generic folder.
c.. The Desktop.ini file may be missing or damaged. Note that you do not
see the Desktop.ini file when you view the Fonts folder. To see the file,
open an MS-DOS session and view the Windows\Fonts folder.
I am supposed to type the following command prompt:
attrib +s +r fonts but since XP is indicated, I am afraid to follow the
steps.
