| I had to re-install windows xp and after I did, there was

| someone please tell me how to?
Do you have a soundcard that you know of ? Should there be one there ? Open
up the documents that came with your PC, they'll tell you. Right click on My
COmputer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > open up the branch
called Sound, Video and Game Controllers (click on the + ). Any yellow
triangles ? Anything resembling a Soundcard eg. "Creative SB Live!" or
similar.
Double click on it and look in the part Device Status. If it reads that this
device is working normally then we know what the problem is, don't we ? We
didn't turn up the volume sliders after re-installing. So, double click on
the loudspeaker icone in the systray and make sure nothing is muted and all
the sliders are at max. Does that do it ? No ?
Now-a-days there are two types of sound :
* on-board
* PCI card based (see above)
If its on-board, make sure that option is enabled in your BIOS. To do this
look at the motherboard leaflet. BTW, on-board sound must be disabled in the
BIOS if you have a PCI Soundcard (Soundblaster etc.) See the motherboard
docs.
