Equipment: Intel P4 2G - 1G SDRAM - MAXTOR 30G HDD.
Issue:
- Install without SMART DRIVE setup takes 6 to 8 hrs, but
completes successfully.
- The next stage of the installation stalls @ 'Windows is
now starting up' --> I loose the use of my keyboard (non-
USB / Regular keyboard), however, my USB mouse remains
active.

Why are you booting with a DOS medium to Install Windows XP in the first
place?
The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains everything necessary to install
Windows XP properly.
With a 2GHz p4, you surely can boot from your CDROM drive.
