Installing Correct Driver

I have a Plug 'n' Play USB 56k modem for which Windows XP (Home) insists on
loading its driver which appears to be incompatable with this device. I have
been unable to install the correct driver from a CD which I have, and which
Windows XP does not seem to recognize when I go to the Update Driver Facility
of Windows XP. Could any one provide me with the correct procedure? Thanks,

I have finally descovered the "manufacturer" of the Modem in question, and
would like to offer the following results of my efforts. In my case the
Modem uses a chip set produced by SmartLink (www.smlink.com) that appears
under several "brand" names. This firm also produces the basic software for
these chips (i.e. Drivers) used by many of these same manufacturers and as
of 3/29/05 available for Windows XP. I downloaded the software from their
site and was able to successfully install the Modem into the new updated
Windows environment. Advice: if your "manufacturer" of your modem has gone
out of business determine the chip set of the device and try to see if their
supplier also supply's the software that may work for your advice.
