I heard there are tools to install applications on a pendrive (by some kind
of virtualization) and run them on different PCs without installing them on
each different PC.
As the question is quite complex I was unable to get valid pointers from
Google.
Can anybody provide any pointer to either procedures or applications?

Mario
Hello Mario,
If I am understanding you correctly, what you want to be
able to do is run software off a thumbdrive that would
normally REQUIRE installation on the computer you are
currently sitting at.
If that is in fact what you are asking, then yes it can be
done. One way is to use something like MojoPac. MojoPac
actually allows you to create a self contained VM that will
run on any host machine that is running WindowsXP or Vista.
MojoPac is expensive, because you do not need to have
software installed on the host computer to run the VM.
On the other side, is VMs that require that a VM Manager be
installed on the host computer. The three most popular VM
Managers are:
Sun: VirtualBox
http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/index.jsp
VMWare: VMPlayer
http://www.vmware.com/download/player/
Microsoft: VirtualPC
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6&displaylang=en
With any of the above 3, you can keep the VM config file and
VHDs on a USB drive. The key is that unless you want to run
into activation issues, you need to make sure that the
version of the VM Manager is the same on all machines that
you will be running the VM on.
Because these VMs are in fact machines, after you create
them, you will need to install an OS on the virtual hard
disk exactly as you would on a physical machine.
One major thing to keep in mind, Microsoft's VirtualPC does
not have any USB support (you can though connect to a USB
storage unit if you share it. It is then treated as a
network drive).
