I installed an additional disk drive as a secondary slave
on my system running windows xp. The drive shows up in the
device manager and is "working properly" according to the
Device manager. But it does not show up in explorer or my
computer. Also the Cd drive is still drive D. Why?

Did you already partition/format the drive? You can do this from the
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage >
Disk Management.

Start, Run, type compmgmt.msc /s go to Disk Management and
see if it shows up there...and post back . . .

Make sure the primary slave in your BIOS is set to your
knew disk drive. Doing this worked for me!

The reason your CD-ROM drive is still D: is because once
a drive is installed, the drive letters do not change.
You will find that your new hard disk will show up as
drive E:.
