I am just about to buy a new computer. I recently bought
a copy of xp to upgrade my old pc but am now getting a
new computer. Will I be able to activate the same copy of
xp pro on my new computer as it is from the same address
and internet connection as my old one?

Only if you completely remove it from your old computer.
Once you have removed Windows XP form the old machine you may then install
it on the new machine.
You may have to activate by telephone, the Activation Wizard will guide you
supply the appropriate number

How do I completely remove xp from my computer is there
some kind of de-activation procedure, how does microsoft
know if i have removed it or not?
Thanks
James

You can remove it by reformatting eh partition it is on or replacing it with
another operating system.
If in doubt you can boot from the Windows XP CD allow it to move forward
like it is performing a setup but select to delete the partition when asked
about disk layout. Once this is done just abort the setup.

Please note you will loose all data and application installed on the removed
partition.
