INstaller problem

when win 2k starts up it wants to keep preparing to
install something. i'm not installing anything. when i
click on cancel or try to end task the 'preparing to
install' box coms right back on about every 2-5 minutes.
can anyone help me. thanks a lot, it's really appreciated.

You could try MS Windows Installer CleanUp utility. There is
probably a corrupt or aborted setup for a program on your system.
Usually installer tries to install the same program each time (but
at the wrong times, i.e. when you are NOT using installer). Often
the culprit is MS Office. Run the utility and look at the list of
programs, if the offending program is in the list, use the utility
to uninstall it and then reinstall the program in the same
directory as it was uninstalled from - usually the default
location for that program. From memory I had that problem after I
installed SP1, installing SP4 might rid you of the bug without
using the installer cleanup.
