Installed xp sp2 and now get kicked off internet

I installed xp sp2 from a disk supplied by Microsoft and now when I get on
the internet and start surfing I will get thrown off and straight back to my
desktop. I cannot download nor sign onto many sites without the same thing
happening. Is there a way to remedy this or do I have to uninstall xp2.
