Installed Printers ---Disappearing & Reappearing

Why is it that under file/print for some of our
applications under XP, the printers are missing from the
selection box?
They sometimes appear for selection.
One day a few are displayed, another day a few more or
less can be selected, but no consistency.
A check shows that the printers are installed properly and
also I have heard of other users having this problem but I
have not heard of any fix.
 
I'm not sure exactly when your printers are not showing
but remember that non-local printers must be installed
under each user. Just because a printer is present for
Administrator doesn't mean it is present for another user.
You may already know this but just in case...

is there a way so that you don't need to install the printer under each
user? What if you have many users, for instance in a educational
environment where students log onto different workstations?
