I have looked in Power Management and unchecked the box there; I have gone
to the Users menu in control panel and unchecked the box there. Still, ever
since I installed .net, when I reboot I get prompted for a user name. Also
when I hit Control Alt Delete I get a different menu now.

Anyway to fix this?

Windows XP will automatically log you on without prompting you at the
welcome screen if these conditions are met:
1) The Welcome screen is enabled (Control Panel > User Accounts >
Change the way users log on and off > Use the welcome screen)
2) There is only one user account visible on the welcome screen (not
including the Administrator account). This account should be an account
with your name and not be the administrator account.
3) The account does not have a password.

If these conditions are not met, you will be prompted for a user name
and, possibly, a password.
You should verify that all these conditions are met, eg. go into the
control panel and make sure you don't have a password (actually, I
strongly recommend you use a password) and remove excess user accounts
(disable the guest account and ignore the administrator account - don't
worry about that) and enable the welcome screen.

Also, .NET sometimes creates an account called ASP.NET service, so I
don't know if that's the problem.

Start | Run CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 <enter>
unselect the obvious, work'd for me.

Right-click My computer, Manage, Local Users and Groups, Users. In the right window pane is a
list of all the users on your computer. Just disable the accounts that were added by the
Microsoft.net framework update. Close the window, reboot, and the "Select User" logon screen
will no longer appear.
