after that it changed a few thing for logon .I got the welcome screen and
have to enter a password.I have only one account mine and would like to
turn on computer and have it login automatically.plus for shut down it has
the drop down block and I am lazy so would like to go back to click turn off
and then ok .how can change these back thanks.

Visit the Windows Update web site and download the available critical update
for .NET Framework. After installing it and rebooting, the Welcome Screen
will no longer appear if you do not have a password for your account.

The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP
after you install the .NET Framework 1.1

You can also use the following steps to enable automatic logon:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type: control userpasswords2 , and then click OK.
3. In the dialog box that appears, clear the "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer" check box, and then click OK.
