I built my own computer and am having a problem
installing any O/S. ME or XP on a new 80 gig drive. The
O/S currently is XP on a 9gig drive that I had all kinds
of problems getting to run. I suspect a mobo problem in
the IDE, already flashed the BIOS No luck. Since I have
registered the XP with the current mobo and small drive
what will microsoft do when/if I replace the mobo and
main drive and use the same XP that I already purchsed
for this computer? Current mobo SOYO 8i465e Dragon 2
considering Intel.

the worst that will happen will be that you will have to
re-register
btw: why not do a RAM test or substitute prior to replacing the main board

Disconnect the small (old) hard drive. Install the 80 GB
drive as master on the IDE cable.
Install XP, reinstall your applications. Copy data files
from the old drive after you connect it as a slave.

You may want to partition your new drive so you have a
partition for the OS (XP), applications and data. When
everything is as you want it, you can use the old drive as a
backup for your documents.
