I am trying to do a clean install on a Toshiba A30, upgraded to 512mb ram. I
can boot off the cd, and the system will load the install files on the blue
screen, but once it says preparing to start windows it shuts down, and it
does this continually, i've tried deleting partitions, creating new, ive
cried deleting partitions and booting like that, ive tried formatting new
partitions, ive tried everything to no avail, is this a hardware issue,
because if so im stumped, ive run hdd diags, memtests, scandisks, etc, but
nothing is found i am running out of ideas, and it's not because it's a
toshiba, ive spoken to them and they said you can do a clean install without
using the restore, recovery cds.
thanks

You could try installing with a different XP disk, but I think in the
end Toshiba is BS'ing you. It sounds a lot like a default XP drivers
are conflicting with the Toshiba hardware.

When upgrading memory, was this another stick?
If so try with origonal. Install problems can be caused by win being picky
with memory (I know you ran memtest)

XP is very picky about memory compatibility. Did you add a second stick
of memory to the one already there? If so that could be the problem -
they might not be compatible. You should install two identical sticks
at the same time. Another possibility is that the new stick is bad.
You can test the memory using these two programs. They won't tell you
however, even if both check good, whether they are compatible with XP
when used together.
