installation question on framework

part of directions I have gotten for installing asp.net for use with IIS 5
and/or IIS 5.1 is to download the dot net framework redistributable package
and install it. Is the necessary even if you have installed the dot net
framework via Windows Update site? is it different?

ok. Thanks. I probably just need to register it with IIS... I'll check out

You may need to register asp.net with IIS however, check out:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306005

which has the 2 very simple commands you [might] need to run.
