If you run the XP install and your C drive is currently formatted NTFS, will
there be an option to convert to FAT32?
If yes, anyone know if this is a long process?

Thanks.

I don't think so, you have to use a 3rd party boot disk to convert it to
Fat32

No. Windows provides no way to convert from NTFS to FAT32. This is
considered a downgrade, and in general, downgrades are never supported.

To do this requires the use of a third-party program such as Partition
Magic.

Partition Magic claims it can convert NTFS to FAT32. How successful the
conversion is I don't know.

Thanks for the replies.

Got out my copy of Partition Magic and the job's already done.

There is no "conversion" from NTFS to FAT32, short of formatting the
partition.

It varies, depending upon the speed of the computer, the speed of the
hard drive, and the size of the partition to be formatted.

But why would you want to do so? NTFS is the superior file system, by far.

Not so. Nothing that ships with WinXP can do it, but several
third-party programs can.

I use several tools that can convert NTFS to FAT32. Believe one
issue with conversion is compressed Files & Folders and "a Sparse
Data" situation. Otherwise, conversion is pretty straightforward.
Would never start it without a full/verified image of the volume.

True, but the OP didn't ask for third party options; he specifically
asked if the conversion was an option during the installation of WinXP.
