Could someone give me a step-by-step guide for installing
Windows XP - Home Edition onto a computer that does not
currently have an operating system installed?

Turn on computer, hit key to enter bios(manual or screen will tell you which
key to press to get into bios/setup). Once in there look for boot device
order(or something similar). Set first boot device to cdrom. Exit and save.
Put in xp cd, reboot computer. It will boot to the xp cd, follow
instructions on screen.

| You need the full version of XP. Not the upgrade.

Not if she has a qualifying version of Windows that's not currently installed on
any system.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
