Hi,

As SP3 includes all previous hotfixes/patches, do I have to install SP2 first,
then SP3 in order for SP3 to install.

Thanks,

Dee.

When SP3 is final - and it is *not* final yet - then yes, it will
include the previous Service Packs and you will not need to install
earlier Service Packs first.

Do not ever install beta software on a production machine or one that
you are unwilling to wipe.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping someone would say.

Dee.

When SP3 becomes available in the next few months, you will be informed of how
to update.

Is it going to be available as any Windows XP update is? That is, will the
update manager alert users there are updates available?

Yes, Windows Update will offer it as an update. The Windows Update
Experience is in intensive testing now by the beta test group.

Malke,

'not fiinal' - very technical. Is that how technical you have to be to become a MVP? LOL

It's on RC0 (Release Candidate 0) & will possibly go to RC1 & RC2 before being released

I am running SP3 in a virtual environment & when IE is launched it crashes which proves
SP3 isn't ready as yet. I have also found a few bugs in RC0 too which the developers have
been made aware of

<cough>

"Not final" clearly means "not released for production use" in normal,
conversational English....which is not a bad way to communicate with the
general public. Your snarky tone in this message is not helpful, and will
probably significantly distract people from appreciating your technical
skills. Play nice with the other kids or find another hobby.

You may want to see if build 3282 fixes the IE crash you're seeing.
See if the Technet group has any update on the issue.

Wolf,

It is the latest build of SP3

I am a beta tester with Microsoft & expect some errors & are reporting all that I find.

I have XP Pro SP2 with all the Windows Updates except IE7 ready in a virtual image & when
the new Beta or RC comes out I copy it & apply it, test then delete that image & copy back
an XP Pro SP2 to test the latest version. It's a 2 min process to start over again. I was
also testing Windows 2008 Enterprise Server this way too but when beta testing Vista for 7
months I actually had a machine dedicated to testing it

I didn't notice too much change between 3264 and 3282 but then again,
I'm not experiencing the issues you're seeing. Could be my environment
though. Seems as though there's a new build every month. I bet we see
a new build at the beginning of Feb. Did you already post the IE issue
to the Technet forum?
