installation of ram

I have just upgraded my ram on my athlon 1.4 meg
computer. I installed two 512 ddr pc2100 ram chips.
when i install only one windows sees it just fine and in
the system info box it lists my ram as 512. when I load
the second chip i still only see 512 through windows but
when I start the computer it sees 1 gig as the bios is
loading.

what is up did i do something wrong can anyone help.

Known bug. The memory size info on the General tab in System Properties
(Rt. click My Computer) can be relied on.
