Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out of this rather
difficult situation.

At a customer site (SBS2000) there was some kind of
failure on the disk that corrupted the ntds database files
(best to my knowledge this is the problem)

When this happens according to MS articles you get a
message like this:

lssass.exe - System Error

Directory Services could not start because of the
following error:
The system cannot find the file specified. Error status:
0xc000000f Please click OK to shutdown the system and re-
boot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event
log for more detailed information.

Now as far as I can figure some not so bright person
entered a Windows 2000 CD and booted on in and started the
installation routine in hopes of repairing the system this
way, anyway what happens now is that if you try to boot
into repair mode it repports 'continuing installation' and
then hits the same error as above. So there is really no
way I can get into repair mode and run the AD repair
utillities. There is no backup of the system state
information.

Questions:

Can I break the installation loop so that I again can boot
into Active Directory Repair Mode?

Can I backup the files on the HD that make up the System
State manually and install a fresh copy of Windows 2000
SBS Server on another machine and restore the files there,
and then repair AD?

Does anyone have any better ideas :o)

Best Regards,

Michael Brandi Andersen
