Installation from xp disk

I tried to reinstall windows xp on my computer. While it was installing it
said that it could not copy a migregdb.exe file, enen though it was on the
disk and displayed in the same area. It also did it with the icwconn.exe and
a couple of others that were clearly on the disk. is there some reason why
the installation would not recognize the files and is there some risk if i
skip the files? Also, now that i did the install I cannot upgrade from the
microsoft site or install my antivirus program. I checked for viruses. Any
help would be appreciated.
 
hi,popeej. mine turns out to be memory problem. I used microsoft memory test
program to test my memory, it fails all the test. after i replace a brand new
memory,the "file copy problem solved". Perhaps you should test your memory
too.

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very
rare occasions the installation CD is the problem.

Tried the memory tester and the memory was fine. I believe the registry may
be corrupted because I was using system mechanic when it happened. Is there
some way I can reinstall xp and override the old registry?
