Installation Failing

I am trying to install Windows XP home on my computere
here at home. I have tried a clean install after
formatting my hard drive and also simply upgrading from
Windows 98SE, but either way I have the same problem. When
setup is copying files, the computer completely freezes at
about 15%. I have tried other cd's, including another Home
cd and a Pro cd, but the result is always the same.

I'm thinking this problem has something to do with my
computer, most likely my hardware. I have tried checking
the HCL, and the only problem it finds is with my onboard
sound. I'm thinking this couldn't possibly affect setup in
such a huge way... could it? This is what I have in my
computer:

Biostar M7VIB Motherboard
Athlon XP 1600+ (runs at about 52 degrees C, I don't think
heat is too much of an issue)
Western Digital 80 GB Special Edition Hard Drive
256 MB PC2100 PNY RAM
Voodoo3 2000 Video Card
Avance Onboard Sound
D-Link DFE-530TX+ Ethernet Card
Lite-On CD Burner

I've tried removing the ethernet and speaker cables before
installing to minimize the number of things that are
connected, but it doesn't make any difference. I was
thinking about opening up the computer and taking out the
ethernet card, but I can't imagine this helping. I'm all
out of ideas. Any help is much appreciated. E-mail is
preferred, but I will check this newsgroup.

It could be the CD-ROM drive. Copy the entire contents of the i386 folder
(including subdirectories) from the Windows XP CD-ROM to a folder on your
computer's hard disk, and then restart the installation

Could be faulty RAM. Even if it worked previously, RAM
can still go bad.
